 FAQ

Are your products 100% vegetarian and animal cruelty free?
Yes and yes. We use honey and Beeswax so we are not vegan, but are vegetarian.

Do you test your ingredients, formulas or products on animals?

Papillon Products does not participate in animal testing in any form and we only deal with suppliers with the same policy.

What does certified organic mean?

It is a certification process for producers of organic agricultural products. Requirements do vary from country to country. Generally this involves a production standards for growing, storage, processing, packaging and shipping. This will also include;-

Avoidance of most, if not all synthetic chemical inputs.
Use of farmland that has been free from chemicals for certain  number of years.
Keeping detailed written production and sales records.
Physical separation of organic products from non-certified products.
periodic on-site inspections.

Are Papillon Products certified organic?

Papillon products as a whole are not certified organic. However, we are working towards organic certification for some of our products. For some products, the certified organic raw ingredients are just not yet avalable. Where we can get reliable supply of an organic ingredient, we will use it. All of our products are however, rich in natural and organic ingredients and actives, luscious natural oils and butters, high in vitamins and pure botanicals.

Any minerals we may use in our products cannot be certified organic, as they are mined from the earth and no one has control of what happend to the land over the centuries.

When formulating products, Papillon Products is extremely cautious of what ingredients we use without compromising the quality, feel and effectiveness.  We would never use ingredients that are known to cause harm, and where possible they are required to be organic or naturally derived.

Can I email you general questions about your products?
Yes. We love to talk about our products and how they are made.

What makes your products different than other natural products?
Our products contain many of the exact same ingredients as other all natural products. Where we may differ is in our labeling. We make our products from scratch and fully disclose all ingredients according to proper labeling guidelines.

We do not practice “selective labeling".

Where do you get your ingredients from?
We source all of our ingredients through established Australian wholesale suppliers with whom we’ve had long standing business relationships with.

Candles

Find infomation under Candle FAQ

Do you use  paraffin wax in your candles?

No, our candles are either pure Beeswax or a 50/50 mix of Beeswax and Soy wax. The product description will list what type.

Typically, Beeswax is yellow to dark yellow, and sometimes, we want a lighter, almost white candle, which is why we sometimes use soy.

Soaps

How is your soap made?
Real soap is made through the saponification process where oils mix with sodium hydroxide and go through a chemistry process resulting in fully saponified soap. Our cold processed soap then takes roughly four to 6 weeks to cure, allowing it to dry and complete the process. With aging, soap becomes milder and the bar harder.

How long do your soaps last?
With average use, our 120g bars last 2-3 weeks.

I want a special blend or custom made soap or cologne. Can you do this?

Yes, we love these requests!  Although minimum amounts apply.

What is in your soaps?
Our soaps are comprised of one or more of the following food grade oils: organic coconut, extra virgin olive oil, argan oil, sweet almond, apricot oil, rice bran oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, hemp seed and added butters like shea, argan or cocoa.

They may also contain fragrance or essential oils, natural exfoliants like oatmeal, sea kelp, corn meal, almond, and finely crushed herbs and Goats milk (based on the recipe).

What is superfat soap?
Superfat is a soap making term which defines the emoilience percentage of the finished soap.

What is the difference between your all natural soap and glycerine (clear) soap?
Aside from the different chemistry processes, both are considered gentle soaps. Glycerin soap is often seen as the “pretty” soap because of its clear quality and endless molding options, like our Teddy Bear soap. Our cold process soaps (all our soaps are superfat) last longer, glycerine usually disappears faster in the shower.

Why should I buy a soap dish?
If you purchase high quality soap, it is essential to keep it dry and out of the shower stream. It will definitely lengthen the life of your soap.
